The importance of sustainability has become increasingly crucial to us in the last few years.

It may be to do with climate change being at the forefront of our news, or possibly we’ve become more aware of how we are treating our world. We feel incredibly passionate that if we all made positive changes, we could all make a difference. It’s very easy to have the attitude that one person can’t do enough, but everyone’s one person will makes an impact.

We started Bull + Tash because we wanted to curate collections of vintage furniture that were stylish, beautiful and of quality design. There are so many wonderful pieces of design in this world that are still as useful and needed, as they were the day they were made. That is not to say we should never buy new pieces but maybe we shouldn’t be so quick to dismiss the old. Even with the changes of trends, these trends are likely to take influence from past decades. For example with the mid-century trend, you could have brought original mid-century for often cheaper than you could the new ‘inspired by’ pieces. We are here to open your eyes and show you that second hand doesn’t have to mean undesirable. In fact, vintage furniture holds its value and is of quality craftsmanship, materials and originality.

We source our furniture from the U.K and across Europe. We then restore our finds and use a local restorer who is extremely talented. The upholsterer we use is also local, and his skills are incredible. Using local trade/people is very important to us, as we are able to support our local communities and have a smaller carbon footprint for our business.

Did you know that when we have our furniture re-upholstered, the majority of the time the fabric has been exclusively designed for us and is bespoke? Robyn Underwood works with us from initial ideas to finished product. She not only designs the fabric, she hand weaves it in her studio in London. It is an incredible journey to see the process from start to finish, and then see the fabric come to life upholstered onto our furniture. We are a small business and we support other small/local business’s. In fact, we couldn’t survive without them. We encourage you to do the same. We can’t always be perfect, but if we try our best and we are conscious with our decisions, that will amount to much good.

Sustainability should be something that is present throughout, and not just in selective areas. This is why when you purchase a piece of furniture from us, we try our best to ship it to you with sustainable packaging. Either with recyclable packaging i.e cardboard or with biodegradable bubble wrap. The biodegradable bubble wrap definitely is not ideal, but it is a conscious step in the right direction. We also often re-use packaging, and that’s why sometimes you may receive odd bits of packing material that are not uniform. It is about not wasting perfectly good materials so that we can be kinder to our world.
